This morning there was a phone call from Service Canada asking me why I hadn't responded to their request that I log into the ROE Web to replace the existing paper agreement with an electronic one with new security features.
After I logged in, once I found the old email from 3 months ago, I remembered why. There had been a problem with Java and in the middle of doing taxes, I set it aside to deal with later and forgot about it figuring they would trip over my neglect later and remind me. Sure enough, they did.
There is now a way around the problem of having the wrong Java type installed and even though they don't support it, there's a workaround to click on to activate your account before they cancel you out of the ROE program for electronic filing through the Service Canada ePass, which is different from your CRA ePass...
There's a request to remind others who might not have activated their ROE accounts to also do this as September 16, 2012 is the deadline or you lose the ROE rights to electronically file. Since it wasn't an easy process to get to the point of having an account, you definitely want to keep it. Hopefully they have made the process to apply easier for those of you who haven't yet signed up.
You'll find the ROE electronic services and the ePass for Service Canada at their website. Now that tax season is over, maybe you'll have time to initiate this process. I think it's a good one as it definitely saves time and trees.
